This qualification covers a wide range of skills and knowledge required for preparing to work in the plumbing and heating industry.

In order to complete the qualification the following topics are compulsory:

  • Health and safety
  • Electrical principles
  • Scientific principles
  • Plumbing processes
  • Cold water systems
  • Hot water systems
  • Sanitation
  • Central heating systems
  • Drainage Systems
  • Practical portfolio

Each theory unit has its own multiple choice end test and you will only be submitted for the exam when we have assessed your knowledge. These on-line assessments will take place under supervision in the exams centre. Practical assessments are set by the awarding body and will take place when we have provided you with the training necessary.

Learners will be expected to undertake the practical assessment of the Bathroom during normal office hours over a continuous 3 day period.

  • Fully qualified Plumber
  • Level 3 Diploma in Plumbing Studies
  • Level  2 NVQ in Domestic Plumbing and Heating
  • Level 3 NVQ in Domestic Plumbing and Heating.

This qualification is supported by the APHC (Association of Heating and Plumbing and Heating Contractors)

Good levels of English and Maths and an understanding of  Science is an advantage.

Some previous knowledge of plumbing an advantage.

The course is for adult learners who are looking to gain a recognised qualification.

Oldham College will arrange an interview and aptitude test prior to enrolling on the course.

This course is aimed at you if you are looking to start a career in the plumbing and heating industry.This qualification is suitable for anyone over the age of 16 who has good GCSE English, maths and Science and an aptitude to the industry or life experiences.
The section looks to offer work experience wherever possible. In the past students have worked on a large variety of work placements for both external clients and other departments within college. Other types of work experience could include talks by guest speakers or visits to exhibitions.
