This course is free to 16 – 18 year olds.


This is a QCF qualification learners will need to undertake the following mandatory units:

• Structure of the construction industry

• Fundamental safe working practices

• Environmental and sustainability measures in domestic dwellings

• Site preparation for working in the construction industry

• Electrical installation wiring and terminations

• Fabrication techniques for electrical installation

• Electrical science and technology

How will I be assessed?

There are several methods of assessment including practical assessments, Assignments, tests and projects.

These will take place in the workshop and classroom environment.


This qualification does not lead directly to a job, but does provides learners with the basic

core skills training and underpinning knowledge to facilitate progression into further

vocational learning such as apprenticeship programme in Electrical. This qualification is an

invaluable building block for learners wishing to embark on a career within the Building

Services Industry.

Learners successfully completing this qualification can progress their careers by

registering on a number of other qualification such as:

Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installations (Buildings and Structures) 600/5498/0

Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment

(Buildings, Structures and the Environment) 501/2232/0

You must be under 19 Years of age and have achieved 3 GCSE's E and above including Maths and English.

City & Guilds

Level 1 Diploma in Electrical Installation 600/9790/5


This is a Level 1 qualification that enables you to progress into further learning in the

Building Services sector. You will learn practical skills that enable you to complete basic

common Electrotechnical tasks.


You will take this Level 1 Diploma f you have no previous experience within the

Electro-technical sector. This level is ideal if you're just starting out and want a good basic

understanding of the Electrical industry. Learners will have the opportunity on completion

to progress onto the next level of vocational learning within the Electrotechnical sector.

You will also be required to achieve the GCSE English and Maths to a grade 4 or above while on the Electrical course if you have not already achieved these.

UCO progression will be achieved after completing the level 3 Diploma.

You will be required to complete some work experience while on the programme and encourage students who are employed to involve their employer in this process.

Figures from the Employment Bureau indicate that employment in the Electrical sector can bring earnings of £26,000 plus.
