Pre Degree Foundation Art & Design

You will study a wide range of creative projects in different disciplines that will give you the portfolio and skills to progress with confidence on to study at university:

  • Drawing
  • Critical studies
  • Graphic communication
  • Fine art
  • Textiles
  • Fashion
  • 3D design
  • Photography
  • Digital applications
  • Printmaking and professional practice.

You will then have the opportunity to specialise in a subject area of your choice and develop your understanding of that area and your portfolio. 

We assess regularly with both informal/formal, formative and summative portfolio assessments. We provide students with tutor reviews which are usually three weeks prior to their final assessments.

We also embed self, peer and tutor assessment in almost every session, whether this is in verbal or written form. Learners have regular tutorials where their assessment grades are checked. Other areas of study such as English and Maths may involve examinations.

Degree Courses in Creative subjects.

Satisfactory interview, reference and level 3 qualifications (or studying towards).

Two A2 qualifications at D and above, including an Art and Design subject or Level 3 Art and Design qualification with overall grade MMM. English GCSE grade C or above and/or Functional Skills Level 2 English. A successful interview, a portfolio of work and a satisfactory reference are also required.

This exciting and intensive one year course awarded by University of the Arts London gives students the opportunity to explore their potential in a range of creative subject areas before choosing a specialism to study in.

Students will have the opportunity to attend visits to national cities.

Throughout the year we aim to provide learners with work experience, this is usually through live/competition briefs, visiting speakers and placements. We have links with businesses in the region who welcome student collaborations, placements and frequent our classroom activities giving critiques, pitches and informing learners on subjects like interview techniques.

Successful completion of this course and a university degree will open doors into all creative industries. Current Foundation students are going on to careers in fine art, interior design, fashion design, textiles, fashion,  graphic design, product design, architecture, creative media, illustration, advertising, film making, photography, concept art and games design. Study Programme

All students at Oldham College will participate in a personalised study programme that will maximise your potential and enable you to progress onto employment, apprenticeships or higher education.

This means you will:

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications
  • Participate in meaningful work experience
  • Enjoy a range of enrichment opportunities e.g. basketball, archery, skiing and sign language
  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
