Brickwork

The course gives you the basic practical skills to enable you to follow a career in Brickwork.

The following units will covered:

  • Health, safety and welfare in construction & associated industries
  • Knowledge of technical information, quantities and communication with others
  • Knowledge of  construction technology
  • Construct block walling
  • Construct brick walling
  • Construct cavity walling
  • Setting out for masonry structures
  • Mix construction materials.

Each theory unit has its own multiple choice test and practical assessments are set by the awarding body.

The section looks to offer work experience wherever possible. In the past, level 1 students have worked on a large variety of work placements for both external clients and other departments within the College.

There are a number of progression routes open for students on completion of this course; progress on to either the L2 Diploma in Brickwork or on to the part time apprenticeship course if you have gained suitable employment.

Level 1 – 3 x GCSES at grades E or level 2/3 (including English and Maths)

All students at Oldham College will participate in a personalised study programme that will maximise your potential and enable you to progress onto employment, apprenticeships or higher education.

This means you will:

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications
  • Participate in meaningful work experience
  • Enjoy a range of enrichment opportunities e.g. basketball, archery, skiing and sign language
  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
