This qualification covers a wide range of practical skills and theory knowledge for working as a junior stylist providing cutting and styling services.

You will study the following mandatory content;

Principles of hairdressing and barbering services

Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp

Style, set and dress hair

Cut hair using basic techniques

Plait and twist hair

Level 2 – 4 x GCSE grade D or level 3 (including English and Maths)

Explanation of entry requirements
Complete an application form online

·  One externally set, externally moderated practical exam

·  One externally set, externally marked exam (theory)

   The course is graded pass, merit and distinction

Successful achievement of the Cutting and Styling Technical Certificate will enable you to continue your training on a level 2 Technical Certificate for Hair Colouring Services

Alternatively, you could choose a level 2 apprenticeship scheme 

Working in the retail industry requires you to be well presented, able to communicate well with peers, clients and industry specialists.

You should be willing to work as part of a team and able to use your own initiative.

You are required to complete client record cards,therefore clear legible handwriting is necessary.

A level 2 technical certificate study program is made up of a variety of component parts;

 Curriculum timetable will include;

  • Demonstration and practice sessions

  • Commercial salon sessions

  •  Work experience

  •  Enrichment activities

  •  1-1 sessions with program coach

Learners must  also undertake a structured work experience or work placement to develop skills and knowledge relevant to this qualification

This is a mandatory part of the Technical Certificate qualification and all learners must complete a minimum 35 hours work experience, this will provide a  valuable commercial experience of what the hairdressing industry offers
