Over the programme you will complete a range of units:

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Principles of exercise, health and fitness
  • Health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment
  • Planning and programming
  • Practical delivery
Level 2 – 4 x GCSE grade D or level 3 (including English and Maths)

  • Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport
  • Level 3 Personal training

The Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification is an industry recognised qualification, allowing you to work in any gym as a fitness instructor.

Foundation degree in Sport and Exercise Science (when level 3 is complete)

The college gym is open to work in to gain experience, however links can be made to gain work experience outside of the college in a commercial gym.

 These jobs have a very broad scope of income of £12,000 upwards, whereas Personal Trainers can earn upwards of £30,000 when working self-employed.

All students at Oldham College will participate in a personalised study programme that will maximise your potential and enable you to progress onto employment, apprenticeships or higher education.

This means you will:

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications
  • Participate in meaningful work experience
  • Enjoy a range of enrichment opportunities e.g. basketball, archery, skiing and sign language
  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
