It is preferred that all applicants have GCSE grades A* to C, in both English, Maths and preferably ICT or Level 2 Key/Functional skills in Maths and English. Most employers require applicants to have a basic knowledge of software such as Photoshop and Illustrator. It is also beneficial if you have a digital portfolio of work to show at interview along with an up to date CV.

The Design apprenticeship is aimed at people who want to go straight into employment in the Design industry. The framework covers a range of careers in the creative sector from Fashion, Graphic/Web Designer, Digital artist, product design, advertising, marketing and can be adapted to fit the needs of individual employers and careers.

As a student of Oldham College you will have full use of all the college facilities

 This course will give you good all round skills and work experience to enable you to start your career in the Design industry

Study Programme

All students at Oldham College will participate in a personalised study programme that will maximise your potential and enable you to progress onto employment, apprenticeships or higher education.

This means you will:

  • Study a core qualification in a vocational discipline and continue to develop your English and Maths skills through functional skills, GCSE resits and the option of Level 3 qualifications
  • Participate in meaningful work experience
  • Enjoy a range of enrichment opportunities e.g. basketball, archery, skiing and sign language
  • Take part in dedicated tutorial sessions to review your progress and development
