About the employer: This is a fantastic opportunity to join the team as an Apprentice Greenkeeper at Werneth Golf Club, where your role will be to keep the course in the immaculate condition that our members & visitors are accustomed to, by working alongside an experienced team of Greenkeepers.
Overview of the role (what will the learner be doing and what will the learner gain): You will learn how to present, maintain and improve the 18 hole golf course using a fleet of machinery, and you will develop skills and knowledge both on the job and through college. By working within a small team over time you will gain experience and be involved in all areas of golf course maintenance and management.
The opportunity will be varied and rewarding, as each day will entail a variety of tasks, so you must be able to work in all weather conditions, be physically fit with the ability to follow oral and written instructions, as well as being able to start work early in the mornings (6.00am), and sometimes work at weekends.
Training to be provided (Qualifications to be gained):
Level 2- Golf Greenkeeping Standard
Functional Skills-maths-Level 1
Functional Skills-English-Level 1
Good attention to detail
Strong communication skills so you can have effective conversations with customers and build professional rapport with anyone
Desired personal qualities:
Polite and friendly
Future prospects: Level 3 Greenkeeping Apprenticeship, or permanent employment.
General course and grounds maintenance,
Adhere to compound lock up procedure,
At all times, working within the club’s health and safety policies and procedures,
Selecting and using tools and equipment consistent with risk assessments,
Selecting and wearing appropriate footwear and clothing,
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with managers and colleagues and golfers,
Offer support to Golf Course Manager, Deputy Course Manager
Any other duties as required to achieve the expected standard.
Assisting with the maintenance of the golf course
Involved in all aspects of golf course set, bunker preparation, mowing techniques, drainage & irrigation, hedge cutting.
