About the employer: We are a long established family practice who are committed to providing first rate medical services to our patients. We provide comprehensive medical services from antenatal care, family planning to chronic disease management and minor surgery.

The practice area covers the Chadderton, Coppice, Hollins, Werneth and Westwood areas of Oldham.

Overview of the role (what will the learner be doing and what will the learner gain): As a Business Administration apprentice, your role will involve:
Ensuring all messages are recorded accurately, efficient communication between other reception staff and other departments is observed.

Opening and sorting of internal and external post.

General office working including faxing, photocopying letters.

Preparation of patient records for solicitors

Training to be provided (Qualifications to be gained):
NVQ Level 2 Business Admin Diploma
Functional Skills English Level 1

Functional Skills ICT Level 1

Vacancy description:

Main purpose of the job is to ensure:-

To book routine and emergency appointments for patients, both over the telephone and for patients presenting at the surgery.

Reception of patients at the surgery for appointments with the GP or other members of the Primary Health Care Team.

To answer telephone enquiries and to record messages accurately from various sources for the information of the GP or members of the PHCT.

Deal with requests for home visits

Scanning reports into patient records

Filing of hospital mail via Docman electronic system. Making sure all relevant information is added onto computer.

Registration of new patients and note summarising. Completion of Temporary Resident forms and immediately necessary forms.

Arrange interpreters for patients as required.

Prepare computerised repeat prescriptions and maintain an accurate record of date and prescription issued.

Ensure the utmost confidentiality at all times

Availability to attend training programmes if necessary out of working hours by prior agreement to both parties.

Be able to cover during sickness and absence, or in other exceptional circumstances, by working extra or changed hours.

Any other duties will be undertaken for the continued improvement and progression of the practice.
