Student Union
When you enrol at the college you will automatically become a member of the Students' Union (SU) and a member of the National Union of Students (NUS). The Students' Union is run for students - by students, with support from college staff.
Executive Committee
The SU has an Executive Committee that acts as the voice of the student body. The Executive ensures that the decisions being made in college reflect the best interests of the students. They also organise a range of social, sporting and fundraising activities, and raise awareness of issues such as student welfare, equality and diversity, and much more.
Class Representatives
As a student at the college you have a right to express your views on the quality of your learning experience. This is done through Class Representatives who are elected to collect the views of all students in their class, and pass them on to the SU. The college also has two student Governors who attend important meetings to give student views at the highest level.
Why sign up?
Being a Class Representative or Executive Officer is an interesting experience where you can make a positive impact for yourself, your classmates and the college itself. You will learn skills that will stay with you for life and may help you later in your career. If you are aged 16 to 25 and you choose to sign up, the time you spend in the post will count towards gaining a āVā inspired Certificate, which will look excellent on any UCAS form or CV. Over 85% of employers have said they would employ someone with volunteering experience over someone without, so get involved and get the edge over the competition! Elections for both the Executive and Class Representatives are held in the first term. Ask your tutor or pop into Student Services for more details.
